We will list only the ones that have some unusual feature about them. (We are still waiting for the world where truly free wifi is available at all airports. If you need a verification via mobile phone, then it becomes useless for people without a proper device.)
Germany:
- Munich Airport(MUC): I hate airports. But this is one airport I do not mind going to. It has lots of places to eat, shop, relax, and even a full-size supermarket is there. Entertainment choices include airport tours and exhibitions with simulators. Free Wifi, of course! You will not have problem spending hours there without getting bored.
Italy:
- Milan Bergamo Airport(BGY): This is the third airport serving Milan, but people don’t realize it is the third busiest airport in Italy(after Rome(FCO) and Milan Malpensa) serving over 11 million passengers a year. There is a big modern shopping center right across from this airport & you can actually walk there by following the signs up and down the stairs and a tunnel under the freeway.
Turkey:
- Istanbul Ataturk Airport(IST): We are in love with the Turkish Airlines lounge at this airport. It is consistently on the best airport lounge lists, and we know why! Freshly made food, tea bar, free massage, comfortable sittings and on and on.
Russia:
- Moscow Zhukovski Airport(ZIA): the 4th airport serving Moscow, it is a former military airfield with a newly added terminal building. Airlines such as Belavia, Ural, Pegas Fly, use this airport to connect to Minsk, Rome, Tel Aviv, Chengdu, Nanjing etc. It is a small airport, and that means you get processed quicker. But there is no information desk or shops of any kind in the arrival area. When our friend in Siberia tried to arrange a taxi pick up for us in June of 2017, none of the taxi companies heard of this airport & declined the business. So we took the #441 bus from the airport and got to Kotelniki Metro station. We did not see any cab waiting at the taxi stand at ZIA, either.
