We disembarked in Dublin, rented a car, and headed south, the beginning of an 8 day trip clockwise around the Irish coast.. Our first stop was Kilkenny, a charming town of 24,000.

Kilkenny is the home of Smithwicks:

The predominant sport in the area is hurling:

We happened to be in Kilkenny on a Monday Bank Holiday. Not much was open and it was too early for lunch, so we continued south to Waterford, famous for crystal. We visited some historic sites related to Viking raids, had lunch and continued on to our lodging in the town of Carrigaline(population: 15,700). In front of the house where we were staying, a young boy was playing with a hurling stick.
That evening we went into town looking for a pub with traditional music. We failed.
