Geysir: the word geyser(a hot spring in which water intermittently boils, sending a tall column of water and steam into the air) derives from Geysir.

Every visitor to Iceland goes to the Golden Circle: a 300 km(186 mi) route to the three most popular natural attractions in Iceland: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and the Geysir Geothermal Area. It was an easy drive out of Reykjavik, and we did it in about 5 hours including a lunch stop in the Geysir area. We basically followed the signs, and the roads were fairly good.

Our favorite was Gullfoss Waterfall. We’d seen some spectacular waterfalls, but this was simply awe-inspiring. You stand right next to this untamed natural wonder, and you go, “wow!” When we went there in February, it was frozen over. I’d love to visit it again in a different season & be inspired again.
